Origins of paper play
I play with scraps of paper—harkening back to the time in childhood when I would wait for my mother’s monthly McCalls magazine. Upon arrival I would immediately look at my mom with a child’s longing, until she would turn to the “Betsy McCall” page, a monthly paper doll with several accompanying costumes. This became the center of my winter activity, constructing the supporting accoutrements- –furniture and gardens—for my little Betsy McCall.Sixty years later, I have rediscovered the magic of paper…and the way it continues to fascinate.
